Theres an offer at Best Buy, for a 100 pack of Dynex brand 100-pack DVD-R disks for $5. Is the burner +RW or can DVD-R disks be used to burn as well?

    Thanks

Following formats are supported by Sony DW-Q58A
    CD-R / CD-RW / DVD-R / DVD+R / DVD+RW / DVD+R DL (Double Layer) / DVD-RW

Cheap (unbranded) media = poor quality.

Don’t use them for important data, but for music and videos they should be ok. Are they 8x or faster ? if you decide to use them, then burn at lower speeds (like 4x) cos cheap media at high speeds causes lot of errors.

I have used Memorex 8x DVD+R all the time they record at 6x and no coasters. Make sure you use good firmware. I use firmware from the codeguys site, version UYS3. I also use memorex 52 x cdr's for me they also work. Some people say the memorex are not real good but I have had very good luck with them. Good Luck ! http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html

I have a lot of movies on DVD-R and I have that Sony drive.

I'm not able to read the DVDs.

    Pitiful.

Dell is sending me a new E1505 (VGA out is broken). It had better not have another Sony in it. I hate the Sony so far. Can't burn. Can't read. What good is it?
