    Hi,

My friend just got an Inspiron E1505 and the computer keeps freezing for no reason. Also when it is running, the mouse keeps turning into an hourglass so that it seems like it's "thinking" even nothing is going on and you are just moving the mouse. She also got a blue screen and a message that it was "dumping physical memory" the first day she got the computer and turned it on...

Is this happening to anyone else?

Something similar happened to me too.. M not sure what is causing this in your case, but for me it was Macfee antivirus. it didnt update correctly or something. I did a system restore and then uninstalled the antivirus. now i'm using my old norton av 2005.

Mcafee is a possible culprit... First think I get rid of on any dell system I get. I got my e1505 friday... and replaced it with avast (free antivirus) right away. Ive always used Norton in the past but been reading so many things about the performance hit it does on your system I figured id give avast a try... so far I really like it and ya cant beat the price.

Another possible culprit... did she run any of the games in the 'dell games' folder? those all use wildtangent to work... and ive had no end of problems with that thing... uninstalled all those games and the wild trangent driver about as fast as McAfee. :)

The nature of forums. People come on to get questions answered, E1505 is new, and a lot of new users bought them, hence problems, or other anomalys. Could be user related, could be Dell's fault, hard to tell until the bottom of each problem is reached. I think in time this will slow down.

Anytime you get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), you should write down the stop error code. Otherwise you won't be able to isolate this to a Hardware or Software situation. Most of the times BSOD are related to software (faulty driver) rather than hard drive. By the way, at least three different blue screens would get you to the "Dumping Physical Memory" error message....

I'm no expert - however, i've had much frustrating experienc in the past with both McAfee and Norton being total memory hogs, causing freezing, causing the machine to slow down to a crawl, etc. My experience is from about a year ago and it was on one notebook and on one brand new desktop. All we did was uninstall Norton/McAfee and presto, the computer worked great. We downloded AdAware, SpyBot, and AVG free anti virus and have no slow downs. I strongly recommend trying the uninstall first before you give up and return. One of the first things i did was uninstall McAfee and i have not had a single crash yet.
