anyone else have an issue when trying to upgrade the sata drives to something larger than 60gb. i have tried both a 100gb and an 80gb seagate momentus (7200rpm) and both are only recognized as 60gb sata drives. i have even updated the bios to ver A12 and still doesnt work.
i have tried the two drives on two other e1505 systems and both see them only as a 60gb drive. the odd thing was that one system had a 120gb toshiba 4200rpm drive in it and it too only saw the drives as 60gb.
i am running vista, but have had the same issue in xp. Seems to be a limitation of the bios. is there any way to force the bios to reread the hardware in the system? or is this an issue with seagate drives or even 7200rpm drives?

Thats odd, I would check with both seagate and dell, I've put a 100 gig hitatchi, and a 120 western digital in an e15105 without incident, both under xp.

I am also having a similar (but not the same) I recently purchased an E1505. I ordered a 80 GB HDD. However, total size is reported as 67.8 GB and the available space is only 55.6 GB. After the purchase I have added only 1 GB of software. Does the OS (Windows Home Media Center) and the freebies coming from Dell take this much space? Why is the total size reported as 67.5 GB? Could someone please help. Thank you.

You are losing space due to the recovery, media direct, and diagnostic partitions, I know it looks like something is wrong, but eveything seems how it should be. -
my issue doesnt have to do with a hidden partition. i have used partition software and it determines it to be at 80gb and 100gb as stated (or close). The issue obviosly has to do with seagate and dell, as i have spoken to people whom have tried the hitachi 7200rpm drives without issues - of course those are noisier.
again, i am referring to the seagate 7200 rpm drives only. the 5400 larger size works in mine. -

Call up seagate and see if there is a firmware update, other than that, all I can suggest would be a different brand. I'm a big fan of Western digital, simply because I've used at least more than 10 over the years with no issues at all, I've had a couple seagate's self destruct, I've never had a maxtor last more than a few months, and had bad luck with IBM deskstars when they were all the rage, but never a problem with WD, so thats what I stick with whenever I can.
If its only the high RPM seagate drives having the problem, its not a dell issue, the problem would have to be on seagates end.
