Ive had an inspiron e1505 for about 6 months now. It has been working fine except about a week ago, it seems to be continuously running something. Whenever I open a program, it makes the usual noise of a program starting up. However the past week it has been making the noise nonstop as thought it is scaning something. I recently upgraded to the new mcafee software....could this be the problem?

    Thanks

did you open task manager to see what programs are running? perhaps mcafee might be doing something like updating its files or scanning

yea when I open the task manager it dosnt show anything extra running. For an instant it says like 38% comp usage, then it drops down to about 5%

just go to start>run>msconfig and look up in the start up and services that for anything out of the ordinary. Usually you will notice that something has installed itself and running in the background. But since you mentioned McAfee it could be that because many virus programs bog down a computer and tend to work a lot.

I'd guess its your McAfee running scans or updates or something.

My son got his E1505 about 2 weeks ago...All seems good but when he boots up gets this error message:

    Program Compatibility Asst.

The drivers blocked due to incompatibility issues

    Driver: Sonic Solutions DLA

    Publisher: Sonic Solutions

It gives option to check Microsoft for update, then says update unavailable at this time, will notify...What is it for?? and is it something needing attention now..Thanks in advance!!
