I'm off to college next year so I'm goin to be needing one a laptop lock. Will any one work, or do i have to buy it from dell? Also, Where would the lock go? If you've got any brand recommendations that would be cool too.

I have a targus cable lock. The slot where you can insert a lock seems to be pretty universal between brands, including Dell.

There are two types of locks.

The old style that attaches to a small slot on the side of the computer and a VGA lock. The VGA lock is more secure. I'm not sure if it disables the vga port or not.

In theory the old style can be yanked off with great force doing damage to the case but leaving a working computer. With the VGA style lock, A real good yank will destroy the laptop.

That being said, I've never heard of a computer using either lock being stolen.
