I have a question about configuring an e1505: all but the very cheapest processor have a 667MHz front side bus, but Dell only offers 533MHz RAM with this machine! Any idea why this is the case? Is there any way to get RAM that matches the 667MHz FSB for this machine from Dell, or do I need to go third-party (and possibly void my warranty)?

in all reality, 533 v. 667 memory performs about the same. you'll be fine with a 667 FSB and 533 RAM.

mostly, performance is the same because of a higher latency in the 667 than the 533.

Sometimes Dell offers the faster memory, sometimes not. I think it has to do with the supplies that they have on hand. If you're gonna order more than 512 MB of RAM and there is no free upgrade it is ALWAYS better to upgrade aftermarket. Check out www.newegg.com for your options. They offer every imaginable flavor of RAM. Like night_2004 said, there is little difference in performance based on speed because of the CAS latency.

By the way, upgrading RAM will not void your warranty.
