I am buying this laptop tonight for my sister that is a graduate student. I will be using the lap top slightly for photoshop use, but no games, mostly surfing net.
Will i notice the benefits of the 256 mb radeon video card
and will I notice the difference between the 2.0 and 1.83 ghz processor?
I'm using the $750 stackable with the $100, so I need to get to $2000 on the sytem and want to make sure I get the best for me and her...
1 gig ram should be plenty..
I'm going with the XGA with truelife display.. Ultrasharp is too small for me...
Thanks for your comments

Get what your budget fits
a 1.83 would be fine, and the 256mb video card would be good in the next months to come (vista..etc.)
I would consider the Ultrasharp, as they are suppose to have better screens (not as much light leakage)
I dont think it will be too small, but screen choice is a opinion -
Well, I have to hit the 2k mark in order to get the $750 discount, so I can really get whatever. The ultrasharp is just too tiny when browsing the net as far as websites that are designed at 775 pixels wide..
As it sits now:
1.83gig process
XGA screen with Truelife
256mb ati video
80gb hd
8x dvd burner
intel pro and dell wireless cards
85whr battery
integrated sound blaster audigy
1gb dual ram

If you're only concerned about Windows Vista, then the 128mb x1300 will definitely be enough.
In my experience, if you're not gaming, doing heavy graphics work, or encoding videos all the time on your laptop, the processor doesn't matter. Any processor is good enough for word processing, web browsing, watching movies, etc. What really matters though is memory. A $1 spent on memory is much much more worthwhile than a $1 spent on the processor. -

I picked the 60gig 7200 rpm HD because I can upgrade it later if needed and I already have a 300 gig external drive.
You can see I max out the system except hard drive and within your price range.
