I've just noticed the bottom part of my screen gets really warm, from the dell logo up about an inch or two, then it gets cool to the touch, my desktop lcd stays cool over the entire screen, is this normal?

hmmmm...i dont know...never happened to my LCD

I think it is normal on the larger screens. Mine is usually very warm. If you remove the bezel, you'll see all of the LCD wiring and parts right under the dell logo.

trhanks SG, its kind of disconcerting as its the warmest part of my notebook when using my lightly modified coolermaster notepal

l just touched the same spot on my e1405 and its also pretty hot.
-
it's hot because there is a "lightbulb" there powering your LCD.

okay, how come that doesnt happen on my desktop lcd?, or on my old compaq evo laptop?
-
the older LCDS dont generate that much heat as these do and its normal anyways and plus each laptop has a different LCD manfacturer all laptops are designed differently mostly all of dells LCDS are the same design from 2003 and ^

okay, that makes a bit of sense....but not much........care to delve?

I never noticed that -
I think that area is usually quite warm but I think the hottest area is the HD area under the laptop , mine usually gets hot even under normal usage

so, bottom line is this is normal and no need to worry?
-
Yep pretty much. Its going to be hot and there really isn't nothing you can do about it. I don't think it causes any damage.

Hakuna Matata! There's nothing you can do about it and it normal. The hottest places elseware on my notebook at the Ram door and the most of the right edge. Because the HDD and GPU are fairly close together in there.
