my e1705 has two interesting problems.

    1. The power saving settings seem to keep resetting. Ie to change how long it takes for the system to go in to standby. I changed the settings to never go to standby and then after a few resets i find the settings are right back to factory presets.

    2. Sometimes occassionally my local network (after coming out of standby) not accessible without a reset  (this seems to happen after the computer has gone out of standdby recently)

Are these problems common? and is there any way to solve them without sending it back again to dell?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Power settings can't be changed by a non-admin user. Are you logged in as the administrator?

Regarding the network: are you talking wireless or internal NIC? Regardless, you can prevent Windows from powering down the card(s) by changing power settings.

I am the only user of the comp thus i am the admin. I change the power settings but after a couple of restarts it seems to change back to the default power management settings.

Regarding the network card when i am not able to access shared directories (lan) on my other computers on my network but i am getting internet meaning my intel 3945 abg card is on. And once this happens, only once i restart can I access the lan again (shared folders and devices on the other comps on my network)

Get the latest drivers...there have been some issues with this in the past. Just google or go to intel's site for the latest ones...Dell might not have the new one's.

    Hope this helps.

It sounds like there's a permissions issue going on. Have you always had this problem? How old is your notebook? Have you contacted Dell yet, or visited the Dell support forum to see if anyone else reported this problem?

USAF's suggestions are something you should definitely do. I know Dell recently released new drivers for the 1705.

thanks for the advice. I am waiting to get mine back from dell since i sent it back to them due to some monitor issues (excessive light leakage). Also it had a memory card reader that was not functional (the built in one).

So i'll check out those drivers when i get it back.

My e1705 is quite new i haven't had it long. However it was an open box model that i got (returned).

I don't get how it is possible not to have admin settings with only one account but i will be sure to check that out either tomorrow or monday and will report back.
