can we put the 7900gtx laptop video cards in the Dell Inspiron e1705 model to give it the same performance as the XPS M1710 notebooks? the m1710 is out of my price range, but I want that video card!![]()

It has been done, and the bios does see the card. Problem is, it is somehow not able to have its full power, as something isn't letting it.
Here is the thread on it, (yes yes, over at NBF)

Something i cant figure out, is why the scores are so low.
Anyways, i wouldn't do that. Your risking your computer at failing, not to mention if you mess something up, Dell won't cover it.
Last time i checked, the card off of Dell.com was $1000.00 -
If those idiots would let me register with my email account on notebookforums, I would do so..but when i click the "email administrator" to send them a message his email address doesn't even show
. How the heck can I register on those forums? Gmail is my only email account.

You need a ISP email, or just email the admins
You really dont have to post over there, post here if you have questions -
I agree with this. I got pissed off the other day when I tried to register and I couldn't I even used my work email and they denied it... I mean come on, wtf kind of email address do you nee dot have? Gmail and especially my work email should work just fine. On top of that I couldnt' contact the admin either because theur lame site is FUBARed.

THank you someone else understands!
So, how can we email those admins nick?
-
The "contact us" email is: [email protected]. It's right there on the bottom of the page.

now it is..it wasn't before..those sneaky bastards..

When the 7900GTX are available en masse, I'll definitely consider it. Perhaps I'll do it once I get a Merom CPU...
-
What is a merom cpu?

I emailed them from my gmail account and they still do not respond to my emails? Can someone please help me get in touch with the admin so I can join that notebook community? I'll still be active in this one so no worries

i think that the go7800 or gs 7900 really ought be enough to play the most demanding games at the highest settings so why paying more anyway
-
i won't recommand the go7800 though. i've heard many people are having heat
issues with it -
The heat issues people have with it would be eliminated if Dell programmed the fans to come on sooner or allowed users to manually control the fans. When using the somewhat buggy i9k fan control, temps on my overclocked 7800Go stayed lower at load than the default setup at idle (and that was using the nVidia temperature guage, not i9k;s temp reading).
The 7800Go is sweet, but the chassis needs more aggressive cooling. Plus, I can't wait until they find a way to activate the two other quads so it can be modded into a 7800GTX... if they can.
e1705 + 7900GTX = M1710?
