About to pull the trigger on this laptop. Getting it with upgraded video card.

Before I do, tell me what's NOT to like about it, please. Thanks.

Bit heavy. The normal screen has some issues reflecting florescent light (for me at least). Battery life is so-so even with the 9 cell (about 2 hours). No PCMCIA slot.

I really do like the laptop, but those are the points that niggle at me at least.

Heavy, short battery life, cheesy white plastic border on the case, can only have up to 2GB RAM, midrange graphics card (the ati x1400)

I really like my e1705 (just got it last week) it has plenty of power to be my workstation and seems to be solidly built.

The M90 has a better graphics card and can take more ram, but the specs look just like the e1705 and with the $750 Dell code, you can load the machine up befoe coming close to the price of a M90.

The problem I see on the Dell website with this great deal is that the processor is not the dual core one. It is a 1.6 single core and I just don't know if that is going to be powerful enough.

Sure, upgrading the video card and going with 2GB of Ram is great. However, I am hesitant to pull the trigger myself based on the processor.

    Anyone here have advice?

    Thanks,
    RJ

Spend more money and buy one of the better processors. i've got the T2600 which is duo core 2.16 ghz (only got 1gig of ram) and it works beautifully, luckily i bought mine before they stopped shipping the 7800 but i really have no regret, its a great laptop. It absolutely cains the **** out of my destop in performace, my desktop is a 2.8 p4 1gb of ram with an nvida 6800 GT screen card and is no match for my 9400. definately get a dual core cpu

    Hmm...

The only gripes I've got about the E1705 is that the inside palm rests scratch easily and it get bad to so-so battery life (with the 9-cell of course - the 6-cell will get you almost nowhere in terms of battery life).

My only gripe is that you cant easily upgrade to a 7800GTX.

Seriously though, if you can grab one with a Go 7800, it's sweet. I play BF2 at FULL settings, 4xAA and I still average like 60 fps.....it's a beast.
