e1705 5400 or 7200 HDD?

im still trying to get the best for my money, and can't decide between the 100GB 5400 sata drive and the 60GB 7200 sata. i'd like the 100bg over the 60 cuz its obviously more space. but the 60gb is 7200. also, its more $$, not much, but still more. is there that big of a difference between the speeds. i read somehwere that the 7200 just helps to even out the performance when writing to outer portions of the disk. and others say that its a tradeoff for battery power. I use hdd space, lots of music. i'll keep the bulk on my ext. 300gb, but i dont wanna lug that around all the time. so im skeptical about having just the 60gb. its $21 extra to lose 40gb, but gain 1800 rpm. lol. any ideas fellas?

As you are comparing the difference between 60 gig to 100 gig and 5400 to 7200 I would advise going with the 100gb.

You would gain an advantage of 40gb and you will be able to notice that and make more use of the extra space that you would the faster hard drive.

I have the 100gb 7200 and my mate has the 100gb 5400, yes mine is slightly faster in many areas but really only very slightly in many cases you wouldnt even notice.Like you said you will be less power hungry and an extra 40gb that would be a better purchase in my opinion.

I think I read from somewhere (maybe one of chaz's posts) that the 7200rpm runs a little less than 2 times faster than the 5400 when reading. And yes.. that would be a huge difference like when booting up your PC or retrieveing big files, though it's really not much of a difference when using common programs and/or applications though. HDD does have an effect on booting up games, but not "that" much of effect compared to Video card, ram, and cpu.

Personally I would opt for the bigger 100gb 5400 HDD in your case if money's an issue. And also in my opinion, I wouldn't get a HDD that has less than 80gb's worth... and that even if I had an external HDD. But also know that dell overpices thier high end HDDs. Going to newegg and installing your own 7200rpm is much cheaper.
