While testing with I9kFANgui and everest, Everest shows GPU temp reaching 82C before Bios turns fan on 'slow'...is this normal? BTW this is at "idle settings. just web browsing...
GPU temp gets to 70C...fan turns off....cycle starts again...

I am asking the same thing. I was wondering if the Go7800 provides too much heat for the e1705 model? I would hope not considering that is the laptop I have been leaning toward in the past few days.
-
and thats the laptop ill be getting in the next few days. So if I happen to get it before you order, ill let you know
-
This is really strange - a lot of people have been complaining about heat issues with the 7800 Go card, yet I'm experiencing none of it. My card sits around 61 degrees centigrade - fans kick in hard at 65, but run slowly all of the time.
-
-
-
sounds like a must have when I get mine
-
-
I take that back - it's not a beta driver, its an official driver (although I have experimented with some betas). I've tried out the other drivers, but had some problems with the newer versions.
Here's the link: http://www.3dchipset.com/drivers/nvidia/official/nt5/index.php -
Did you mod the inf urself for the 84.20? The 7800 GO is not listed in the .inf and attempting it to run it kicks out the very familiar error msg "Can't find a driver for GPU"
-
If you don't block vents and fans working heat should be under control IMHO. -
I assume Dell uses thermal pads for cost and time reasons, money drives all business decisions.
I also heard that the heat issues were fixed in the 7800 rev 2- the cards Dell started using after they removed the 7800 as an option for a little while. I think they brought it back at the end of April. -
I can say 'negative' to this. I received a replacement E1705 a couple of weeks ago. The 7800Go in this one is the 'second version'. Still has heat issues.
Lappie warms to 80c and fans kick in, temp drops to 70c fans shut off, then within 2 minutes temp is back to 80c.
Same behavior as before. Stock drivers used.
-
Would anyone mind posting a quick how-to on checking the GPU temp.?
Thanks -
Why the heck does it wait until 82C to kick on? -
Its time they shoot the engineers and just fix it!
At the notebook forums they have already tested and shot down the Rev. 2 GPU running cooler theory.
Remote controlled underwater robotics supervisor...and still nobody likes me! -
Could some of you with the e1705/Go7800 share both your idle temps and full load temps? Why do some of us have the GPU temp get to 82C while just sitting there doing nothing? Sure the fan kicks on (low) and quickly drops to 70C....is BIOS fan setting adjustable? Is there a newer BIOS than A01 that addresses this issue?
-
Has anyone returned e1705/go7800 because of the heat issue?
-
I am in the process of returning my e1705 go 7800 for chronic BSOD, was wondering if it has anything to do with temperature, but I am not very tech savvy and don't know how to check it--hence my earlier question about how to look it up.
Thanks -
I reconfigured same system with the new 20 watt 7900GS for $20 bucks lessover the phone. The Rep contacted the returns Gal who isused me a RMA number for the UPS pick up.
Just a stroke of timing. I hope Dell does you guys right! -
Similarly configured system after shipping costs 1,529.19 USD whereas mine did 1300 USD (both w/ -$750 coupon). Think it's worth trading up? -
return it. call them up - tell them you are livid about the new gpu option and want to return. reorder tonight if they agree to return - dont wait to order after return. do not give in to the restocking fee.
dont delay - call now. if the first rep wont do it - hang up and call back. -
I had a cool Rep so no problem.
-
I blame you folks for all my troubles! If I didn't read this forum I would have been quietly accepting of the heat issue. As it is, I got a RMA (no restocking fee) to return the system i received Monday (T2300 CPU and 7800 GPU, 80GB, bluetooth, intel wireless, WUXGA) just have to pay shipping, and ordered over the phone this morning (already shows in testing less than 8 hours later -- must be a popular config) a better system (T2400 CPU and 7900 GPU, all else exactly equal except 1 year warranty) for a grand total of $12 (plus return shipping) more....$1296 versus $1284....such trauma...thanks folks.
I bet the 7900 isn't exactly going to be an icicle in my lap, though... -
When re-ordering, does Dell apply your previous order's coupons to the re-order? My coupons were -$100 and -$750. What about overhead of shipping the unit back?
All I need to do is change to 7900gs...and maybe downgrade the WUXGA screen since I've been hearing complaints about it's reflection. Will Dell allow me to do that without penalty?
May it actually turn out more expensive to try to re-order when all's done and settled? -$100 coupon is no longer valid and shipping to them may be an expensive affair.
EDIT: what do you mean when you say "dead" laptop? Dead after how many years of service and from WHAT?
In short, do I bite the bullet and keep my currect config or re-order? -
hey guys slightly off topic here.
The 7900gs is avaliable only in America? Can anyone tell me some other countries its av. in and when it will become a worldwide customizable option, because it isnt yet here in Hong Kong.
Thx/.
