My specs are in my sig, however my laptop really isn't a laptop... What I mean by this is it gets re fricken diculously HOT. I think it has to do with the fact that The HD, CPU, and Mem are all located on the bottom. If I do use my laptop on my lap I end up with Sweatty Legs (Gross) and It raises my body temp by like 10 degrees (I'm Not Fricken Kidding).

Anyways to answer your question: While it could be a combination of things my 7200 RPM Hard Drive Equipped E1705 gets realllllly HOT!

I suggest purchasing a Pacific Spire Breeze at your local BestBuy to decrease your laptops temperature a bit.

How do you know it's the drive that is overheating? Download HDTune and see what the temperature is:
    http://www.hdtune.com/

The RAM compartment is located directly in the center of the chassis, and that gets hot. It is normal. The top right corner also gets warm due to the processor, but perhaps with the fan control utility Pursuit mentioned would help that.

most likely it's not your HD but your video card.

i have almost the exact same laptop as you. 100 gb 7200rpm, and the HD itself is fine, but the video card is a piece of cra*p.

get yourself a pad-cooler and download the manual fan control and turn the 2nd fan on highest at all time.
