What are the net stores for reselling replacement/upgrade HD's and RAM for a good value for e1705 that I've just ordered from dell?

Which brands would you recommend for a >100gb 7200 HD; considering value, reliability?

Which brands would you recommend for e1705's RAM?

How many RAM slots does e1705 possess?

I'd look at NewEgg.com for RAM and HDs for notebooks - its quite popular around here on NBR.

    1. For HDs, I prefer Hitachi Travelstars, Fujitsus, or Seagates. Western Digital HDs aren't bad either - watch out for Toshibas if quality means anything to you (I had a Toshiba HD actually blow up on me once - literally).
    2. I like Kingston RAM and Crucial RAM the best - Corsair isn't bad either though.
    3. The E1705 has two RAM slots - each slot can hold a 1GB 677MHz stick for a total of 2GBs of RAM when maxed out.

You have only two choices for 100GB 7200RPM drive, Hitachi or Seagate. Both offer pretty similar performance.

Yeah, you'll be happy with either one. Word on the street is that the Hitachis are a little faster, but the Seagates run cooler. While they aren't readily available yet in 7200RPM drives (for notebooks), all the major hard drive manufacturers are switching to a new drive recording technology called perpendicular recording. It increases both the capacity and performance of the hard drive.

I was going to buy a 100GB Hitachi, but I've decided to live with my stock 60GB drive until the perpendicular 7200RPM notebook drives are available... though they probably won't be cheap. Just something to keep in mind.

2GB RAM ensures you won't ever run into any memory problems, so if you can swing the cash, it's worth it.

What is the deal between ATA-6 and SATA/150 of the notebook HDs sold on NewEgg?

Tell me more about this "perpendicular" technology.
