How old is your e1705? Last time I checked it had either 533MHz or 677MHz.
that RAM should work. but you could check places like crucial.com to see what RAM is needed and how much can be installed.
What types of task do you do with you laptop?
    What's your price range?

NO WAIT. THAT WONT WORK !
That is standard 240pin DIMM used for normal PCs,
You have to get 200pin SODIMMs for your notebook.

Unfortunately the memory you picked out is for a desktop.

This stuff is what you want. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...t&productCategoryId=cat01170&id=1153337017517

That is compatitble. What program are you using to identify your memory? I suggest using NHC or CPU-Z because other than the manufacturer (my original mem was from Hynundai) there is no way that is accurate. Else Dell has some explaining to do.

    What you need gd-student is 2 x 1GB 200-pin SO-DIMM DDR2 PC2 4200 (533 MHz) or 5300 (667 MHz) modules. NewEgg is a good source for this.

I did use CPU-Z. Is there something I ought to worry about?

Price range, as cheap as I can get it without quality sacrifice. Tasks such as gaming: the e1705 is a DTR.

Should I worry about overheating with double the ram--my current temp readout according to I8kfan for GPU is 145 F and RAM is 118 F while browsing the web?

Also, when selecting correct RAM what are the cas/latency considerations?

How will the performance be different with each type?

533 and 667 are virtually the same perfomance wise, just dont buy desktop memory and you'll be fine.
