Hello, I recently purchased and recieved a Dell e1705 with 17in. Ultra Sharp Truelife wide-screen WUXGA. The display is clear and I notice very little leakage...however, it's just too bright to look at. It makes my eyes hurt sometimes. Because of this, I am thinking of getting a screen without truelife and returning the e1705 I have now. The only other option on the dell site besides truelife is 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display. I'm posting here to clarify...is this more like a normal flat pannel display monitor (mesh screen)? I have one of those from dell and am able to look at it fine. Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, how did you fix it? Changing the dpi hasn't really done it for me...

Thanks in advance for any help.

not so fast; use the up and down arrows while pressing the fn button to increas or decrease brightness.

Yeah, definitely try to adjust the brightness before you send it back. And to let you know, even if the other screen is matte, my M90 has a WXGA+ matte screen (I'm assuming they use a pretty similar one on the E1705), and it is still quite bright. Much brighter than my old Latitude C640. Just try to adjust it, or do like I did, and give it some time to get used to it. You'd be surprised how nice it seems after a while.

You know you can manually change the brightness right? Use Fn+(Arrow Up) and Fn + (Arrow Down) to make it brighter and dimmer respectively. See all those little blue numbers/letters/pictures on your Dell keyboard? They all do something when you hold the Fn button and hit it. Give it a try...

i'll trade that bright screen if it's not over exposed. Try the steps they said above , that will help.

Just to echo what others have said, try turning down the brightness with the FN & DOWN arrow keys. If that doesn't work, try using sun glasses... that usually works for me :)

The non-truelife are all matte, which is what I have: 17" XGA 1440x900

Just to make sure there's no confusion, that would be a WXGA+ resolution, not a SXGA (Dell does not offer a SXGA screen for the E1705, only WXGA+ and WUXGA).
