i have an intel core 2 Duo T7200 @ 2ghz. are there any adverse affects on this type of laptop in regards to it's lifespan if i do not use sleep or hibernate? i would like to keep it on all the time as i never really travel with it and i have samba running so every now and then i need to remote to it from ssh/samba. i can't find anything that compares sleep/hibernate vs always on.

    Hi,

I'm not an expert, but just from my feeling, I'd say staying on all time shouldn't harm your laptop. In many offices for example, computers even have to stay on permanently because they're doing network maintenance overnight or during weekends, so it shouldn't be harmful to your Laptop either.

The cooling of the Inspiron E1705 seems good to me, I never get worrying high temperatures even when I'm running it four hours at high loads, so you shouldn't have any temperature problems or so when it's in idle most time anyway.
