i've posted previously on the boards complaining that my e1705 feels like its getting warmer when compared to when it was brand new a few months ago.
whenever i play warcraft 3 (a not so graphics-intensive game) the fans would kick on high and basically stay there the entire way. i'm using i8kfan to check out the temperature (but i'm using the default bios fan control) and my memory temperature is peaking at 58 degrees without any offsetting. when i check the temperature while the fan is on high, the cpu is usually at pretty low (30-40 with -8 offsetting) the video card is at 58 or so, and the ram would be at like 52-55. maybe its just me but i find it weird that the ram is only slightly lower in terms of temperature when compared to the video card.
i have called up dell and complained but they insisted that it was normal. i also complained about these "non memory parity error" blue screen of deaths that i've been getting and they ended up making me run a bunch of tests. it turns out that the hard drive failed the test so they sent me a replacement hard drive through the mail.
of course replacing the "faulty" hard drive didn't fix anything so now i'm thinking of complaining about the non memory parity error until they replace my laptop. this is pretty much the only chance/time for me to do it because i am a student and have classes starting again on january 20th or so.
i have a few questions about dell's depot service. how long does it take for me to get the new laptop? do i have to send mine in first and then they'll send me the new one? i know that these "new" laptops are actually refubrished from people who possibly brought a laptop and returned it, hows the conditions on most of these laptops?
any help is appreciated, i just want to get some more information first before i embark on a 6 hour phone call with dell again.![]()

gander/notice to see if you've got two matching sticks of ram in the little guy. that's all i've got for any possible probs. maybe it was punted in shipping? what's the lappy's spec?

Try cleaning the fans and get rid of dust.

My E1505 was shipped out on Monday for depot service. They ship next day priority for everything. You get an automated phone call and email when your laptop makes it there. I also have onsite on my warranty and the guy that came to fix it said they really do try to have a 3-5 day turn around time. He sent his own laptop back to Dell for service and he got it back in 6 business days. You want to be careful of one thing. My service call was for Friday late afternoon. DHL will come to your door and pick up the laptop and provide a laptop shipping box, all padded, etc. You have to call DHL, they have a special number for Dell laptop pickups, and arrange a time. They are only there M-F 7am to 7pm CST. My tech left too late so I had to wait until Monday before I could get my laptop shipped back. You can't just bring your laptop to DHL and ship it. If you want to do that way, you still have to call that number and get an airbill shipping number so your local DHL depot can print out the Dell shipping label. I was really upset when I went to DHL on Saturday and couldn't ship my laptop because I still had to call that number. I had the DPS (Dispatch) number the tech gave me but there's no way around not calling that number. Not sure how it works if you go via a telephone rep, the process might be different. Will I get my laptop back before Christmas? eh probably not but it's ok. I'll have it back next week.

it was fine for about a month and a half after i got the laptop. all of a sudden it just started to get hot.
heres my laptop's spec off the top of my head:
e1705
intel core duo T2250 @ 1.73ghz
nvidia 7900 go gs
1 gig of ram
i doubted that its the ram, i've tried running on one ram and it still gave me errors. from searching around on the net, the non memory parity error can be anything and many people have the same error.
i'll prolly just end up calling dell first so they can hopefully send me the box before they shut down for the holidays. now i just have to call dell and hopefully they'll agree to replace it. -
I'm in the same boat as you crazeman, my e1705 has absolutely been pumping out more heat than it ever did (it still doesnt put out a lot, but its more than it did). I'm going to crack it open and clean out some dust soon. The ram thing happens to me too, but it only happens once in a blue moon so I never really did anything about it.

well i gave dell a call and the guy gave me a dispatch number for me to send the laptop so they can take a look at it...
now my question is whether or not they can actually find the NPM error. i mean its really completely random and i'm sure it can not appear at all (sometimes it pops up several times a day, others times it'll go NPM-less for a week) when they are trying to recreate the problem. i hope they don't send it back to me unfixed/unreplaced because they couldnt find the problem. -
The best way to do this is with a can of commpressed air. -
those new systems won't get dust in them as fast unless you live in a dusty area.
About Memoriy Parity Error, I have 3 replacements all 3 crashses in Blue screen. The Blue Screen crashes very random as you said. I've experiencing this for 8 months now.
I sent mine to depot today and they recieved it. Last time I sent to them they just gave me another HDD to replace, other stuff is the same.
One more thing, Dell tech told me that the technician in Depot will not do Blue screen diagnosisting so you have to tell the Rep whos talking to u replace other things such as motherboard and video card.
Memory Parity Error on E1705 1505 ARE NOT RELATED TO RAM ISSUE. It's something else in Dell's hardware and may be software too.
My college starts sooner than yours it's on 16th. Dell better fix it fast. Hopefully i'll get it on jan 3rd 2007 to test it to see if it crashes again. I'm kinda recommend my friends not to buy new Dell Inspiron due to this problem.
