I bought an e1705 a little while ago, with all the bells and whistles.. Pretty much has ever option on it. But.. There were some problems.

I sent the first one back, it had some bad screen leakage, the screen didn't turn off when I closed the lid (that was strange), and randomally it would make a noise (You know that sound when you're connecting a usb device...) several times and then go on standby. I'm thinking the last two are related, that the computer thought the screen was closed, andthen put the computer into standby mode.

Anyway, I got my new e1705. Same brand screen, somewhat better. However, it gets really really hot. When i'm using the computer, both the right and left rear gets extremely hot... And when I noticed this, I flipped the computer over and the fans were not on... Oh great, time for a new one.

I did the Diagnosis thing (FN key when starting) both the fans physically work fine. What else can I do to try to diagnose the problem, or is this even a problem? how's the heat on everybody elses e1705? I know the 7800GPU got quite hot, but i have the 7900..

Think I should send it back, again?

Actually the fans are controlled by the BIOS, and are set to come on only at a specific range of temperatures. Other than that, they won't be running.

You can control the fans yourself by downloading I8kfanGUI

Install that fan utility and your temps will go down. It keeps it much cooler then the BIOS. Many people here have it and are very satisfied with it. Your system is fine, it just needs to be a little cooler.

Good luck and tell us how it works for you.

I installed that utility, and it seems to be working okay... though, I can't seem to get it to work either. i can "force" the fans to high speeds, which cools it down, but I can't set it right so it will turn itself on... oh well. I'll keep messing with it.

I keep mine on "slow" at all times. Just apply the right speed and click apply. Also be sure to offset your GPU temp by 8 degrees in the options tab.

Hm.... I still get get the auto-thing to work. I guess i'll just leave it on slow too, and when playing a game bump it to high.

Go to options and enable auto start. I would suggest second fan on slow to auto start, leave the cpu alone.

Then set teminate after starting fans. Now your good to go AFTER a restart and every restart. RTFM please.

Note that when gaming, bios takes over and I8kfan bows out. After game you have to re-enable I8kfan after the bios "trip out", unless you just restart for any reason.
