Okay so I was online the other day with my e1705...the screen all of a sudden had that "snowy" effect...sort of like when you mess with the antenna of a television. So I turned the power off....when i tried turning the power back on...i got nothing. I mean the power light goes on for a few seconds....the backlight on the screen goes on....then it shuts itself down.

I'm thinking my HDD went out on me. But, before I go spendingg money on a replacement, i wanted to see if any of you could back me up...or, if I'm wrong, shine a little light on my situation....thanks!!

I have to disagree. Probably more of a GPU/Screen than HDD problem.

Hopefully it has nothing to do with your motherboard, unless you have warranty to get it fixed.

When you turn on the Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock indicators may flash. It may be one, a combination, or all of them. Make note of how many times they flash because it will likely be a good indicator to Dell just what failed in your laptop.

if it was the HDD that failed, you would be able to see a BIOS screen and after the bar finishes you would see a message about No bootable device or something along those lines.

Well actually this may be a motherboard or video card failure but only Dell will be able to determine that.
