In the power options of Windows, I seem to be missing options... or maybe not. I want only the screen to shut off when I close the lid, but my options when closing the lid are "Stand By", "Shut Down", and "Do Nothing". Well, I want the laptop to keep doing what it's doing when I close it, so "Stand By" and "Shut Down" are not viable options. "Do Nothing" keeps the screen on.

I thought I had it figured out with a combination of "Do Nothing" and having the screen turn off after 1 Minute of inactivity, but then the screen shuts off one minute into watching a movie. GRRRRRRR!

My mom's HP laptop has a small pressure button on the edge of the screen that turns off the LCD when depressed, so when she closes the lid, her screen turns off while maintaining all functionality. I have no such button... :( So what can I do? I didn't see a setting in the BIOS and I really want to use this for my HTPC, but I can't have it shining light everywhere...

This next part I also posted in the General Hardware section:

It's not a quick beep, but a little more drawn out beep and it happens far enough apart (more than an hour?) that I haven't gotten too concerned, but I want to know! I thought it might be my GPU overheating since I overclocked it, but the temps have never exceeded 78C and the warning chime is supposed to occur at 93C. I have since taken my GPU back down to its original speed and I still randomly hear the beep.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. As near as I can tell, it doesn't even happen when I'm doing anything 3-D related. It hasn't happened when running on battery power (because I'm almost always plugged in). The only quirk about my system that I have noticed is that my power brick get pretty hot - hot enough to concern me.

    Any thoughts?

    Nick,

I know it would be a hassle, but for watching a movie I would just adjust the time, not to turn off monitor and leave it in the background. Once you get done with the movie, turn it back to 1 minute.

As for the beeping I can't think of anything really...if it is something to do with the hardware I would think you would get an error message or Windows would record and error.
