First off, I've really enjoyed reading through the forums the past couple of weeks. This is a great community and an absolutely fantastic resource. I got into the market because I saw a Dell commercial, did a little research, and was amazed that you really can get a laptop that does everything I want, especially w/ the dual core. And extra especially w/ a $750 coupon to boot! When I first turned it on last week all the junk drove me nuts so I had to reformat and haven’t had any other problems to speak of really. (Drove me so nuts I didn’t even bother to follow all the steps of SouthernGirl’s excellent XP reformat sticky post)

Here’s what I don’t get, my gig stick of Crucial oem, from newegg, just arrived so I popped the bottom of the case open and found two sticks of 256 samsung instead of the one stick of 512 I was expecting. I know from looking at e1505 specs they list whether your ram comes in one or two dims.

So, I guess this is my question: is dell doing me a favor by allowing me to operate in dual channel, and I’ll just upgrade in pairs, or are they just getting rid of old inventory and trying to meet a glut of orders? I’ll probably just be getting another gig eventually, anyways, but it is a little annoying. I mean, I want 1536 right now, not 1280! ;-)

In conclusion, since I ponied up for the 2 year in home warranty, could a tech just drop off a 512 at my house and trade me for my 256’s? I doubt it’d be worth it if I had to do anymore work than that. Also, do you still need matching sticks these days to run in dual channel anyways?

PS- watching the milk drop visualization in winamp 5.21, in 1920x1200, is worth the price of admission, alone, as far as I’m concerned.

PSPS- I just looked at the e1705 order page, before I posted, and they do specify 512 of “shared dual channel”, so I’ll take the high road and assume they were doing me a favor.

yeah, bottom line, your invoice from dell should list specifically the type and config of ram included in your system. if you didn't get what you ordered, i would call and complain.
