Hey, I ordered a new Dell e1705 on Thursday night (5/18), and it's estimated ship date is June 6th. However, what really confuses me is, my friend ordered a similar configuration just today and his is scheduled to ship June 7th. To me, that doesn't make sense why mine will only ship a day earlier when I ordered it 4 days earlier...Could anybody shed some light on shipping times with Dell to me? Do they tend to ship early, late? I have no idea, as the last time we ordered a computer from them was about 3 years ago, and it only took a week....However, that was a desktop... Thanks for your time!

You'll most likely get your machine much sooner than the date Dell estimates. For example, they gave me an estimated delivery date of May 31 and I got it today... 9 days "early".

Dell always under-promises and over-delivers. That is one reason why most people are extremely satisfied with their customer service. :p

yeah, I got mine 2 days earlier then what they had said.. I was happy too.

but wow.. you ordered Thursday night, same time I did, and they are telling you June 6th? I have next day shipping and they say I am supposed to get mine this Friday.. such disparity from these guys!!!

What I don't get is that they say they shipped on Sunday... meaning, shouldn't I receive it today?

In my experience with DELL they basically give you the OHH CRAP OUR PLANT Just blew up in Malaysia Scenario for ship dates. I ordered my E1705 back in Feb around the 19th and they gave me a ship date of March 1st and Delivery of March 8th, got mine on Feb 25th. Spectacular!

Ohh BTW Enjoy that beutiful piece of machinery its soo beautiful.

Also the "similar" configuration...could be that one of your parts was in short supply. That is why it is going to take longer.

    Just a thought. :)

Thank you so much guys! I've never been to a forum where so many people were so quick and willing to respond to my posts, I'm very impressed and I appreciate it...
KManZ, you ordered Thursday as well and they gave you ship date of Thurs??? What was your configuration? Mine was as follows:
    1.83Ghz Core Duo, FREE 1GB DDR2 SDRAM (533Mhz), 100GB 7200RPM HD, Go 7900GS, Intel 3945 WiFi, Dell 350 Bluetooth...
So, they "under-promise" and over-deliver, and what you're saying is I could possibly get it as early as this Friday, or next Friday?? That would be spectacular!!

BTW, catennacio, we have the same zip as he lives up the street...neglected to mention that...and the only differences in our configs are processor speed and amount of RAM..sorry should have been more clear on that

Yeah, I ordered my e1705 a week ago (on 5/17/06) and the status to-date says this:

    Delivery Estimate: Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - Thursday, June 01, 2006
This information is current as of Tuesday, May 23, 2006.

Order Processing: Wednesday, May 17, 2006
    Pre-production: Wednesday, May 17, 2006
In Production: Wednesday, May 17, 2006
    Kitting
    Build
    Testing
    Boxing
Shipping Prep: Thursday, May 25, 2006
Estimated Ship Date: Thursday, May 25, 2006

How can it still be in "pre-production" a week later? :( Would I get a more current update if I call them?

That is my exact situation!! Except mine is May 18 all the way down....Then June 6th...Why is my ship date so much later?? I'm so confused with this, other people that ordered around the same time already have theirs... :-(

EDIT: Did you get the 100GB 7200RPM HD? Because I did, and I just remembered there is a 6 day delay when you select it...Could that be causing our trouble??

Ahh, I think the hard drive was the only thing I didn't change (I kept the standard 5400 rpm 100 GB) -- everything else was maxed out from the stock options. :D

All that I was told from my chat was that my processor was on backorder, which created a 5 day lead time...I got the T2400 btw. So I don't know...

So it wasn't the harddrive that was causing all the trouble? At the rate this is going it looks like mine really will be shipped June 6th. :(

Edit: I also had a chat with a rep. and was basically told they just have lots of other orders now, hence the wait...

    Lucky!!

I think talking to a rep helped out yesterday...
Because I checked the status of my order online today, and now it's in the 'boxing' stage! How much longer will it take on average from here?? I'm really excited to get this laptop...

I believe boxing means it's being sent over to the U.S. As for how long, I'd wager a couple days, then it gets shipped off to you.

Mine is still stuck right after pre-production.

Boxing is 2-3 days for sure, sometimes just a little bit after 48 hours after it goes into boxing

then if you pick 3-5 day shipping, i usually get mine in 2 days once UPS has it. And im in Chicago, when it comes from Tennesee

Sorry to hear its still stuck in pre-pro, Wylde. I'm sure you'll have yours around the same time I have mine...I've heard the website is a bit quirky with these things...I've even heard accounts of people receiving their Dell packages before receiving a tracking number!

Well, looks like the email did something. I got a nice guy who's concerned as to why my order has been so slow, so he's given me a free upgrade to overnight shipping, instant tracking via email, and even offered a $33 credit refund!

*sigh* They pushed my order back a week. I hope this thing gets here before my classes start on June 5th. :( I have the standard shipping -- kind of wish I had the overnight shipping now. Any suggestions? I'm afraid to mess with the order because my dad was the one who ordered it for me.

It will be around then, but for sure, it will be next week sometime. Wednesday maybe

Do you really think so? Is this based on Dell's notorious use of the "worst case scenario, under-promise and over-deliver" mantra? :) *crosses fingers*
