I'm really worried about the e1705 being far too bulky/wide/large/ginormous to bring around to classes, coffeeshops, and work around campus...

    well, is it?

my friend has an inspiron 9300 (older version, but still the same size)
It is noticeably larger than the other laptops. But as long as you have a case/backpack to carry it in to classes, coffeeshops, and work around campus, it's great. I like it because it feels solid and it gives you a little extra space, as opposed to a 12 inch or 14 where you feel like you have to keep your legs right next to eachother or it may fall out of your lap.

    But that's my opinion.

Its big but beautiful! The extra screen is great for multiple windows being open, watching movies etc..

Since classes just ended for us yesterday, I haven't been able to take it to one yet, but I have seen others with this laptop, and it seems to fit ok.

I don't think this machine will be too difficult to manage... like citric said, a good case/backpack would be good.

Well my first hand experience is:

I had an HP 15" notebook for a long time...now that I have my I9300 (same size at the E1705) I love it.

The weight isn't an issue to me. The screen size is a great advantage to the I9300/E1705/I9400. I love the extra space.

As stated before a good bag is a must. I have one with a padded shoulder strap because of the extra weight of the bigger notebook.

It is definently a personal preference on size, but for me I loved it. :p

my friend got his case at Office Depot i think. It's pretty cool. He loads it up though, with actual books and other things. When my e1705 comes in I'm just gunna carry around the laptop, charger, usb mouse, and cd case with bf2 and other games in it.

Oh, one more problem....the people behind you will get distracted and will not be able to see past the mamajama that is your beauty notebook :D

that is true. and they'll also be able to tell when you're taking notes and when you're sniping enemy troops or pillaging an orc village.
