i got my e1705 today.
seems really great except for the terrible leakage on the bottom of the screen.
i will call dell tomorrow but was wondering what should i ask for to get this situation resolved?
1. should i try to get a completely new comp? ask for a diff brand of screen? i have samsung brand?
2. should i ask them to send a tech over and replace screen?
3. should i ask them to upgrade my screen and pay the diff? if so would i need to send this in or can they send someone to my house to change it?
4. just totally return it and forget about buying dell?
5. some other option?
the screen is so terrible i find it hard to see nearly half of the screen when i play half life 2 because the screen seems so washed out or so dark depending on what angle im looking at. and that means half of the screen is dark while half is light at the same time.
watching movies is hard to do also as bottom is so light.
im not the type that has to have a perfect screen but this is really bad.
i have 4 yr onsite warranty and live in hawaii. would prefer to avoid as much shipping charges and restocking or other fees if possible.

As before mine arrives on the 24th. Yes, talk to Dell and let us know. I have a Gateway picked out and standing by in case my 1705 screen is as yours. I getting a bad feeling about the nearly total lack of support for this screen or anyone telling me that it's just random bad luck?
Anyway, Good Luck with your screen!

i chatted with thier hardware support... they were very nice and helpful. they are sending a tech to change my screen but when i asked if they could do a diff brand then the sam sung, they said they just replace the same part from a list. he took a little time to look up exactly what the replacement part would be and said its sam sung again.
so i asked him... since they are sending the part to the tech and hes coming to change it and im afraid will be same problem... is it possible to upgrade to wuxga. he said yes but lets try and just replace it with same type of part first. if i am not satisfied we can try other options. so i said ok.
i am happy with wxga resolution for desktop, web and halflife 2...its just dam hard to see movies and games clearly cause the screen is half bright and half dark no matter what settings or angles i tried. also even though i havent formatted hd, comp is very fast. i might not format it and just uninstall some things. i wonder if the 2 gigs of memory helps.
*note-they are coming to my house to fix it as i have at home warranty -
Hey good news.
It so happens Dell upgraded my 1 year to "in house" for free so i don't have to sweat the back in fourth if the screen is wonky. Feel much better now.
Keep us posted... -
I had a lot of light leakage on my 9300 wuxga screen when I got it. But after about 2-3 weeks of use the leakage decreased drastically. I think part of the problem is the light that is used to light the screen is overly bright when it is brand new. After a few weeks of use the light calms down to a normal level. I thought about sending mne back right after I got it but there was a post on here some time ago that suggested waiting a couple weeks. Now I am quite happy that I did.

Thanks! Good point! I would also wait a bit to see if nothing else gives me trouble.

A good idea would be to call Dell and let them know about the leakage. That way if it doesn't get better you can reference a previous call to resolve the problem.

hmm waiting sounds like a good idea but since i already called them and they are going to replace the screen ill do it. then ill wait and see what happens. as it is its about half the screen leakage. seems really bad. hope fully new screen will be less. then ill wait and see if it becomes even less. but well at least its on file.
