You are correct. There are two options: WXGA/matte and WUXGA/glossy. For my needs, I wouldn't think twice before choosing the matte. WUXGA results in thins being very very very very very very small, while glossy screens reflect a lot of light and give me headaches fairly quickly. I'm sure someone will be able to provide images, but the difference is that glossy screens are shiny.

Unfortunately, the display quality of the WSXGA screen is significantly worse than that of the WUXGA screen. I had a 9300 with matte 1440x900 right besides a 9400 with glossy WUXGA, and colors, light distribution and viewing angles were much better on the 9400 WUXGA screen.

I don't like glossy, would really prefer matte, but the quality difference between these two was too much for me. I ended up with the WUXGA and am getting used to glossy - which is easier than i suspected first....

I'm with cgd. Matte is a good quality, but its not made for 17in screens. I'm about to send mine in to get the WUXGA+ screen because I can't stand it anymore.

Having a 17in widescreen, the angles will be good only in certain areas. That issue + the matte makes the screen look weird IMO. My center is brighter than the edges, so the center looks correct in colors. Yet on the edges, it is duller, and colors look really off-color.

I'll try and get pictures tonight.

hmm then i should upgrade to the glossy option, the email support said i could just upgrade it with no problems. I guess if i dont like the screen ill just use my lcd monitor to look at it. Since itll prob never accompany me to college lol.

I use a dell ultrasharp 1905 im used to the resolution. To me the 1280 by 1024 resolution is just perfect for gaming.

The weird thing to me is that they dont offer an option for in between xga and uxga.. sxga would of prob been around 1600-1700 resolution or somewhere around there. The only thing that holds me back is gaming on it but i guess ill game on my lcd monitor instead and watch movies on the trubrite.

Well if you are going to upgrade it, you'll need to do it before your 21 day return period is up. I think if you do it while it is still in processing, you have to cancel the order and reorder again. Once you get the machine, I think you can order the screen, and send the WXGA back.

Whatever you do, don't wait until after the 21 day period. Then you have to pay $488 dollars, and get the screen from dell spare parts.

Here are some images from my 9300 with WXGA screen. The first one is with the lights on, the second/third are with the lights off. All three shots are with full brightness and I didn't edit them either. The colors in the pictures is exactly what I see.

Ignore the gridlines. Sorry about the pictures not being so good -- I was in a rush.
