I've tried out 3 dell adapter from ebay (china, hong kong, usa) all crapped out on me within a year of use. I tried 2 batteries as well (china, hong kong), and they crapped out on me within about 8-10 months.

I would've been happier just forking over the dell cost initially had I known the adapter/battery from ebay wouldn't last me as long as I had hoped.

Well, it's all anecdotal evidence in the end, but I, on the flip side, have never had a problem with either.

I'd say that if you are already only looking at genuine batteries, you should make sure they are genuine and new. Genuine and used generally isn't that helpful.

I have never had problems with batteries on Ebay, but I prefer buying from us sellers and I will recommend it. The US seller might have a slightly higher price but it will still be cheaper than buying from dell and it will be genuine. Ask the seller to make sure and you shouldn't have any problems.

Batteries should run for about 2 years if they have not been abused or are not charged using a different cheap charger like a dock or a non standard power brick for your system. I don't know for sure what was the cause of your bad experience khetik but I never had problems and lots of my friends never did either. Could be just bad luck in your case or could be the specific model.

I bought a 6 cell for my E6400 23 shipped from the US. Has quite a few scuff marks, but works great.

Just ensure that the battery has the official "Dell" logo on it, and that usually means it is legit. I bought a 9 cell for my M1330 on ebay a year ago, and it has been performing perfectly

Not necessarily, a good portion of the "genuine" parts from Asia are fake. They don't care what they sell to you and the warranty means nothing, because buyers are less likely to ask for returns or exchange internationally.

If you look at the picture in the second link, it's quite obvious that the label is fake (not even an attempt to copy). If you are going to buy OEM batteries from eBay, make sure it's from the US. I would go with the first link.

How can you tell from the picture and the label that it is fake? There are 2 kinds of 9-cells for the E6420 one with a green label and another with a blue.Did this confuse you?

No, look at the text. It says "Dell Inc." instead of the DELL logo, which is a definate give-away that it's fake.

What's the difference between green and blue labels? Is green for the 3-year warranty 9-cell?

Power adapters: there are a lot of used, original Dell PAs available on ebay. I would get one of those. I would never buy an after-market one directly from anywhere but the USA or Canada, for insurance reasons. What do you do if that chinese power adapter causes a house fire?

Batteries: at least for the D-series, they are all crap, Dell included. If they last much longer than the 12 months warranty that you get at Dell or reputable online sellers, you are lucky. I would go for the cheapest available trough a US- or Canada-based business, again for insurance reasons - laptop batteries can cause fires, too.

BTW: if based in the EU, replace all instances of "USA" and "Canada" with "European Union", for the very same insurance reasons. ;)
