Ok, so Dell is basically blaming Sony that they(Dell) have to recall their notebook batteries.
What I have trouble understanding is why Sony doesn't have to recall their own batteries in their own systems if there was a malfunction in the manufacturing process.
Sounds like Sony is sabotaging Dell or something by sending them exploding batteries.
btw, I'm not a Sony hater (my pc is a Sony and my notebook is an Dell), I'm just wondering what's going on.

i doubt its sabatoge, its going to cost sony not dell.

Yeah, but it has to be hurting Dells image.
When I saw a stories on the internet a few weeks ago, the title were something like "Dell laptop blows up in Japan" or "Dell laptop blows up truck!" They didn't even mention that Sony made the batteries, which would lead many people to believe that it was all Dell's fault. -
It's because not all batteries are the same. The problem here was in a specific run of batteries that Sony produced for Dell. The reason Sony isn't recalling all of their batteries is because they weren't affected by this problem.
These companies make all sorts of different batteries for different companies. The likelihood of every battery made for every different manufacturer having the same problem would be very low. -
Sony has made batteries for Apple as well.

Estimates seem to hover around the 200 million mark and most believe that sony will be footing the bill on most if not all of the recall

This is going to hurt Sony a lot. Dell will also be hurt by this, but it wasn't their fault really. Well, they did let a company make defective and dangerous battery for them... but as long as my house doesn't burn down then I am fine. I can't rebuild my house because it is on commercial land.. I would sue Dell and Sony for all I could get if that happened.
err... somthing seems fishy to me about the battery recall
