    hi all.

    i'm considering exchanging my inspiron 9300 before dell's 21 day policy is expired, but i'm a little bit concerned. you see, i was laying down with my laptop on my waist and when i got up i discovered my belt buckle had scratched the aluminum case by the touchpad. i'm worried dell might notice and refuse my exchange. what do you guys think? think dell might not care and give me my exchange credit anyway or do you think dell would flat out refuse to accept it back?

    in case you're wondering, here's what i'm planning on exchanging it for:

    512mb -> 256mb (so that i have a free dimm to put in a 1 gig stick)

    xga -> uxga

    60gig 7200rpm -> 80gig 7200rpm

    6 cell -> 9 cell

    standard audio -> sound blaster audigy

    when all is through i'm hoping to have a monster system featuring 1256 megs of ram, a 256mb geforce, super sharp uxga display, a long lasting 9 cell, and good quality sound only fitting for my grado labs sr80 headphones.

    so what are your thoughts?

    well, after reviewing the "total satisfaction Return Policy" that dell offers i have not seen any notion of them prohibiting you from doing so, but on the other hand, it does say "unless you have a seperate agreement with dell all hardware, accesories, peripherals, parts, and unopened software still in its/thier sealed package may be returned within the 21 days from the date of the packing slip or invoice". From how i see it as longs as you have the package for everything, it should be fine.

    Just a suggestion, get the sound blaster zs notebook from another site, dell overcharges by at least 30 bux. New Egg has it for 95 which is near the cheapest.

    I'm sure they probably won't notice a minor scratch, as long as it's not a gorge. lol But you do realize that if you put in a 1gb stick, for a total of 1.2gb, you will not be running in dual-channel mode, right?

    the xga --> uxga is not necessary a good thing -- as many ppl strongly prefer the xga over the higher res microprint uxga. I have the uxga and if I had to choose all over again, I probably would've opted for the xga instead.

    good luck,

    yass

    Don't worry about the scratch, in fact some of Dell's new systems are shipped with scratches
