i ordered my 1420 on july 2 and the estimated is august 6 or something like that.
called up customer support and was like whats up with the 30 day lead time? I basically just asked if there was a problem with my order. the rep checked this and that and then asked if i wanted next day shipping...then got me next day shipping (for free? i'm not sure, she didn't mention anything about paying for it). she also told me there is no problem with my order and that its likely that shipping date will change in the next couple days (key word LIKELY not guaranteed)
i thought it was because of the 1440x900 screen delay, but when i ordered it didn't say anything about "this my delay your oder". if thats your case, you might want to call and see if theres a "problem" with your order, because your order might be showing the wrong shipping date?
also, she told me that mine was more than 50% through the production stage, but she coudln't tell me if it was in testing/building or packaging =\ how do you guys know? she said that they only see numbers, not actual stages.

Yeap, if you call Dell Customer Service and express any concern with your shipment, they will upgrade your shipping method to Next Business Day for free.
Call Dell at 1800WWWDELL to check order status. Provide them with the order number and the automated voice will tell you if it's in the preproduction, building, testing, or boxing stages. -
thanks sirius, i guess a little bit over 50% in "production" = the boxing stage...i guess it takes a while to tape up the box and toss some styrofoam in =\ weird
-
I would assume it to be the testing stage. But you could be right. Just call.
-
i bet they test it after they box it...probably throw it around and see if its "road ready"
or it could be that in the 30minutes since i called production moved from "a little bit over 50%" to like 80% -
Calling 1800WWWDELL and saying "Check order status"
will lead you to an automated voice. What she tells you is more accurate than 50% 80%.
She'll actually let you know what stage it's in. -
the automated system should tell you -
-
-
lol, you must have some bad memory.
wait what was I talking about? -
Can anyone tell me what's going on? I just called to check the order status with the 1800WWWDELL and it said that my 1420 (ordered on July 1) is in the boxing stage and that the shipping date is August 3. 20 days from boxing to shipping?
-
No... prolly will ship before then. The estimated shipping date is usually OVER estimated! (In this case, they over estimated it almost 2-3 weeks!!!) LOL....
-
-
koiboi i imagine it'll ship out sometime in the next 3-4 days. someone else on the forum who ordered a 1420 on the 31st got theirs yest and their est. shipping was early august
-
Boy! Are they over estimating these shipping dates by a month or something?!?! Wow....
-
it probably would've been in there best interest not to overestimate so much, because that caused me to call which caused me to get free next day shipping
-
LOL... Merry Christmas from Dell I guess!
-
someone got a 1420 already?
-
The automated voice uses the original estimate i believe.
-
estimated ship dates i believe are just a worst case scenario for most things.
i ordered on 7.7.7, and have a ESD of 8.9.7 i got on today to ask them, and they said nothing is backordered and that it "should" be shipped well before the end of july.
i just wonder because, the quickness in which technology depreciates in price, a months wait is quite a while! -
Just to let you guyies know, that the automated # does not work for Canadian people. I didnt know so I called to check and it gave me a giggle. It said the laptop is is transit and was shipped on June 26, 1998. Hahahahaha. Funny stuff
-
Awesome, I guess I'll be using my 1420 in a week or so surfing notebookreview, hopefully. Damn, overestimating makes people happy.
expedited shipping/ shipping date change?
