Maybe you guys can help me out.

At this point I know I'm picky about my laptop. For $1700, why not? I had a Fujitsu 7020D and sent it back because of light leakage at the bottom of the screen. I have a T43, and will send it back because I haven't experienced a fan this loud since my Mac LC in 1996.

So now I'm looking at the Dell 600m. Does anyone have any major complaints about this system? I know it's got the slower chipset, and weighs about 5.5 pounds, but at this point I'm willing to take that for a pleasant user experience.

So, how is the SXGA screen? Decent quality? What about the fan? Is it on all the time, and if it is, is it reasonable? Any other insights you can give?

    Thanks for you advice.

Might want to check out the T42 ThinkPad. They use Dothan Pentium Ms which run cooler and have less noise. I only hear the fan on mine when I am attached to the dock, even then it is not very often. Dell 600m is getting a little old to me. Latitiudes are better built than Inspirons, but not as good as ThinkPads. Here is a review for the 600m:

Also be advised that the 600m is being discontinued, replaced with the widescreen 630m.

How about the Dell Latitude D610? I was looking at the 600m also before I decided on D610 w/ 14.1" SXGA+. Except for the infamous static noise from the headphone jack, i cant really complain.

I cant really say anything for the 600m, but im assuming the screens would be very similar to the D610 and if thats the case, I would pick the SXGA over the XGA anyday. I have an old inspiron 5100 w/ 15" XGA and you definetely have alot more room w/ the SXGA.
