    what connections do these new computers offer to plug in external hard drivers. i feel stupid but the only one i know of is the usb2.0 what else is their that will just plug right into these. i kinda want to go a differnt route because they are slow, or so i hear.

    Well, the only options you have would be USB 2.0 and Firewire and I'm not certain if most firewire enclosures are even compatible with the mini-firewire available on the laptop.

    Otherwise, the best option is to get an eSATA card. You're looking at around or more than double the performance with an eSATA versus USB 2.0 enclosure. (Something around 55-60MB/s versus 25MB/s for USB 2.0.)
