    external hard drive

    My hard drive went out in my laptop. Is it possible for me to install windows on my external hard drive it has 2 tb so space isnt a problem. Is there anyway at all to run the laptop off the external hard drvie

    I think most versions of Windows still make you jump through a ton of hoops to install on a USB drive. Firewire or ESATA might be less finicky, though the latter might still be pretty slow. ESATA should give you the same sort of speeds as an internal drive, but why would you want to lug a desktop-size ESATA drive around with your laptop?

    You should just replace your internal HDD...

    There is of course also the issue of accidentally disconnecting the drive and crashing your computer. Better to just get a new internal drive.

    Listen to him. I think it would be better to get a new HDD because like he said what if you disconnect it... there goes your essay that you were typing. Not only that but the write speed will be lower and your data can be easily stolen.
    IMO its not worth it
