I'm looking for a fanless Dell laptop with XGA screen.

or merely, a 4:3 aspect ratio.. I don't want widescreen.

    I prefer 2GB RAM

and I want the right shift key to be above the up arrow and not directly adjacent to it.

    what's out there?

    Absolutely nothing.

The only fanless Dells are a couple "Mini" netbooks made in 08/09.

    Dell hasn't made a 4:3 notebook since 2008, either.

In fact, I doubt any manufacturer ever made such a notebook at least in the mainstream... I think some old 4:3 ToughBooks may be fanless, but I doubt that's what you're looking for.

Why are you looking for fanless? If you've got good thermal grease and aren't doing any heavy work, most laptops will either be silent or a quiet low RPM.

You may want to look into the Latitude D410, it matches all of your specifications other than fanless. Almost all laptops have the right Shift key above the Up arrow...

I'm looking for fanless, I don't want to divert the discussion as to why.

Such a laptop doesn't exist. The oldest fanless Dell laptop was the Latitude X1 which was already in the widescreen era, with 1280x768.

Since it doesn't exist, you might like to reveal the mode of use. That might get you more recommendations - though I realise they'll be subjective.

    Nope.
It doesn't exist, that's the answer to the question.

How come you are looking for a fanless Dell laptop? I assume you want something quiet, but such laptops already exist.

On the other hand, fan-less desktops/htpc are completely plausible, and you can have any size screen imaginable.

Portable even if it's a small lan box and a screen with a handle on it.

Another option is some sort of tablet, which are typically fanless.

Like the other users said, there are a bunch of suggestions if we knew the application.
