    well..
as this is my first time ordering from Dell,
I just wanna know about the things that I'll be getting..

if I choose Vista Ultimate as the OS, what kind of dvd will I get?
is it a recovery dvd with vista ulti in it plus all the drivers and stuffs from Dell,
    or
is it a separately genuine vista ulti dvd like what we can get from retail stores?

    any inputs?

It's an OEM copy and you get a second disc with the drivers and utilities

I assume the OEM copy can be used to do a clean install without all the stuffs from Dell?

    a question about the wireless..

the Dell website where I wanna order my notebook only has a/g, while Dell website's on other countries could have a different type like abgn, bg, etc.
why would they make that difference anyway.. :(

I'm looking for abgn though, but is it possible to ask them to change the a/g wireless to abgn even though there's no option for it?
could anybody tell me what's the difference of all wireless types?

a/g? thats odd.. where are u? japan? i wonder why dell don't offer it, there must be a mistake...?

    this is from wikipedia.com

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi

    in a nutshell

802.11 a/b/g/n is the name of wireless standard. each new generation brings more improvement, both speeds and/or range. you need the compatible router with similar broadcasting frequency (a/b/g/n) in order for your laptop to work. most router/receiver, have multi-compatibility means that the device (router/receiver) not only have 1 set of broadcasting standard (eg. 802.11g) but can accept multiple standard (802.11 a/b/g).

so.. to put it more clearly

    802.11 - irrelevant

802.11a - least need for consumer, u might need this in a coporate, business environment as they might still use this.

802.11b - few years ago (+/_2 years ago) to be the "good to have" but not needed as the 802.11g is becoming the default standard.

802.11g - this is the current mainstream standard. this is the one u want/need right now.

802.11n - this is currently still in draft (beta), the wifi certified company announce that the current draft-N 2.0 (2.1?) will be compatible with the final release with probably firmware update at worst case scenario, (promised to be) sometimes next year. this N standard is a massive update IMO, promising to offer longer range and more speeds.

the one u want is the one that have all of em' :D for compatibility reasons. but the most sensible is the one thats accept 802.11 g/n

Another question about Vista, do you get the 32 or 64bits version?

the a/g that I was talking about is located on Dell China and Hong Kong.
I've got someone there to buy it for me, but looking from the wireless type I don't think I'm taking it unless they can change the wifi to abgn..
if nothing could be done about it, maybe I'll be buying from Dell Japan because they offer abgn..

    umm.. another question..
if I buy it from Dell Japan, and say they don't provide english Windows Vista and give me a japanese Windows Vista,
afaik, we can change display (UI) languages to english or any other languages by downloading from windows updates..
so I think it's not really a problem..... or is it?

    need some advices here..
