    fps just went down in WoW

    hi, i have a dell inspiron 1520 laptop i just got like a few weeks ago with 2.2 ghz, 2gb ram, 8600gt, and xp home and when i installed world of warcraft i could run it basically at max settings pretty smoothly, only when i was around a lot of people i would get like 20-30 fps, everywhere else i would get like 40-60, all of a sudden today when i logged in, my fps just dropped like from 0-10 fps some reason, and not just around a lot of people, it was just anywhere... anyone know what could have happened?

    Check your clocks and temps of both your cpu and gpu. It seems to me like your hardware is being downclocked, either because of overheating or because of some power settings you might have overlooked.

    what you mean my clocks of my cpu and gpu, i haven't really been looking and recording my gpu much since i got my computer just because it never really got high BUT i did notice something about my cpu because i always look at that since it seems to get pretty high when running games.

    when running wow my cpu temp gets pretty high, i normally get up to like 70-72 C when running wow, HOWEVER, today i played for a bit and it the temp only went up to like 65-67... you sound like you are right so my hardware automatically downclocks? but how would that be because i've been getting the same temperatures as always and my computer never changed....

    Should be a lil battery icon at the bottom right. Make sure you set it to performance mode or whatever. 30fps for WoW with your specs seems very low.

    Were you plugged in? If not then Nvidia's PowerMizer was enabled and thats when all things blow to hell.

    30 fps is low? even on maxed settings? lol what should i be getting i thought thats pretty decent

    I play wow on Max Settings on my Laptop and very rarely ever go lower than 60fps. sometimes it goes down to 56-ish but thats not too often. 40 on a very rare occasion.
