hey everyone im really hesitant on buying a xps m1210 from dell because of its screen size. i have heard that the screen is not very comfortable for occasional gaming or typing or browsing the net for a while. any m1210 users out there that dont think the screen size is any problem at all? the type of games i play are fps type games like cs source or hl2. im attending college in the fall and want a portable powerhouse that i can carry everywhere but has the ability to do some occasional gaming on it too. i fell in love with the m1210's features and power but the screen size is holding me back.

    any thoughts?

I haven't yet used the M1210 for gaming but for notetaking and web browsing for long periods of time, it's no problem for me, it's definately more comfortable than the WUXGA on a 15.4" screen from my experiences.

true but now its like a toss up for me between the m1210 and the and asus w7j. right now w7j is a cheaper option but the m1210 has a little more features than it. i want the portability yet be able to play fps games at a nice frame rate.

I recieved my notebook on Monday. I too, thought 12.1" would be far too small, since I've been using my friends 15.4" Lenovo.

Turns out it was the opposite, the 15.4" was pretty big to prop up on your lap, the 12.1" is perfect, with the 1280x800 resolution, it doesn't feel small whatsoever, it's the perfect size for a notebook.

I upgraded to the GeForce Go 7400 and it's great for gaming! I can run Need for Speed Most Wanted at the native resolution of 1280x800 at Medium graphics with no lag whatsoever, at 1024x768 I can get away with running it on High, it's a little big sluggish.

Counter-Strike Source works great at the Native resolution of 1280x800, and the defaults are set to high, and that plays online with no issue. I have the Logitech V400 mouse, and I can definitely play FPS's with it. Can you imagine playing an FPS with a trackpad?!

I also put on Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, that runs well on the native resolution at medium quality, on high, it's a little sluggish, but the display looks great, and when games run at the native resolution, they look good anyways.

Battlefield 1942 is also another title I have installed, and I don't think I've changed any settings on it, so I believe it's running at 1024x768, but that doesn't have any issues, nor should it, being an older title.

I definitely hope this post helps!

that sounds great cuz i dont expect to have a gaming powerhouse but for it to be able to play games at a decent setting for 1-2 hours of play. maybe i just might give the m1210 a second look but the asus w7j is looking good for the price of it. if the m1210 comes out with a coupon or a deal i might have to pull the trigger on it.

don't forget that you can always buy an external monitor. You can get one very cheap. the m1210 iwill handle hl2 and counter strike with ease. You need not worry.
