I almost ordered a i9300, but I need to be sure about the memory the 6800 go videocard uses... Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure what you are asking, but I have a new 9300 with the 6800. I also have 1 meg of RAM. Everything works great!

The standard GeForce 6800 video card has DDR1 memory and the 6800 Ultra has DDR3, so the top version is the way to go if you can afford it, but then there is the ultimate 7800GTX !

Hmm, so that would mean it's not as fast as I thought.
I read that there were two versions of the standard Geforce Go 6800...
Can the DDR1 Geforce 6800 in the i9300 be clocked to DDR3 speeds though?

Yup there are two versions of the 6800 one with DDR1 memory and one with DDR3 memory called 6800 Ultra. but you can overclock the basic 6800 but don't think it will get a 50% performance boost which is the difference between the two 6800 cards.

Muchos gracias guys, I thought there were 2 versions of the non-ultra 6800, but the other version must have been the ultra.

The 6800 ultra is only available on the XPS M170, no? I can't seem to configure an i9300 with anything better than a standard 6800. Comparing a 9300 to an XPS M170 is essentially the same machine (from what I can tell), except that the M170 has a 6800 ultra and costs $500+ more, especially with the coupon codes. I'd rather just grab a 9300 and pay the $100 more the Ultra is worth over the standard 6800.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a 9300 but I'm concerned the 6800 won't hold up for playing BF2 or games released in the next 1-2 years. That and the fact that Dell has no 17" gaming notebooks that are ready for 64 bit operating systems. Kinda hard to swallow spending 2 grand on a notebook that won't be able to upgrade to Vista 64 or whatever else comes down the pipe in the next 2 years of use.

Here's an example of the massive price increase:

They want roughly $878 more for an upgrade from 6800 standard to Ultra. You also lose the free Dell 720 printer for upgrading to an M170. The rest of the specs are almost identical. They offer 18 months same as cash for the XPS line, however. $878 for a video card upgrade and 18 months financing instead of 12 months? What if I want a 6800 ultra and 18 months?

Smooth317 - you are right in that the i9300 can only be configured with the 6800 DDR1 card and Dell wants people to get the XPS if you want the 6800 DDR3 Ultra card or 7800 GTX. The price difference between the i9300 and XPS is really a lot.
