ok so recently i've found out that i have one faulty memory stick. before i my computer used to show 3.5 gigs (i have 4 gig) but now it only shows 2 gig. after some help from the dell tech we've found out i have one faulty stick. he said that ram is covered by my warranty said he is sending me two 2 gig rams in the mail and that i would have to send the other two back to them. but im thinking, only 1 stick is faulty why do i have to send both back? what happens if i don't send my sticks back to them? my friend said that i would get charge? but how can i get charged by something covered by my warranty? does my warranty become void if i don't send back? anyone knows?

No, you get charged for not holding up your end of the exchange. Dell is sending you two new sticks and you are expected to return two sticks. Now, it does not matter which two you send back so make sure you keep two good ones.

If you don't send the parts back, one of two things will happen. They will either charge your card for the RAM you stole, and it will not be low NewEgg pricing...it will be Dell expensive overmarked pricing. Or they will void your warranty until you return the pieces.

Plus, you only have 2 dimms anyway, You got no use for another stick.

Exactly. They send you two sticks, they want two sticks back. If I were you, I would test them all to determine the two that you want to keep, and leave those in and send the other two (including the broken one) back to Dell.

This is what the warranty usually warrants..they send you *replacement*, you send the *bad* part back to Dell.

If not, you can/and usually will get charged the part you didn't return.
And, it's the right thing to do. :)

Yes, very good idea to test them out!!

He wasn't really complaining, he made a thread because he was confused about the process! And, now he has been helped! :)

Sending the Ram back won't cost you a thing since dell pays for the shipping. So there's no reason not to return the old ram.

Why don't you just send back what your supposed to???

    That's not right, I'm sorry. :( *fraud*.
Ever wonder why Dell seems to be *overpriced* on things?

It's up to Dell to check, and for you to decide the *right thing to do*...

    sigh.

    Yes.

Do the right thing and keep to your agreement. How would you feel if Dell only sent you a 1 gb stick?

And this is why we don't give people online any credit for motive.

I can just see the new thread in 2 weeks - "DELL SUXORZ, they charged me $80 for a 2 gig stick of RAM".

Yes they will check. Why wouldn't they? You will receive a call within 30days and they will tell you to send back the stick. If you won't they will charge you or void your warranty till you pay.

It is pretty obvious at this point you are trying to get away with something. Thread closed.

    Return the original sticks.
