i'm considering getting a 1520, and i see many people around the forums getting great deals on them and i was wondering how

i want to spend around maybe 1000
i've been testing out configurations and i'm able to get
the only discounts i can think about getting is using the coupon
i'm also able to get the student discount, but i think they coupon is better, right?
so are there any other better ways to penny pinch?
    thanks a bunch

also, when did they start charging for different colors?

Man i was in the same situation ~ here is my advise

Take your time, the more of a rush you are in the more you are going to spend. When i first started looking at laptops i had just missed out on some $500 off coupon. So with that kind of discount in mind i started watching the dell coupons. Every day at some point i would check here or google "Dell coupon" fiddle with different system builds prices ect. Then after about 2-3 weeks of looking i was reading in the Dell section ~here~ and saw this kool post that said MYSTERY 25% off coupon (thanks to that kool guy BTW) so starting with the base vistro 1700 i was able to cash in on a pretty good deal imo With the $ i saved i can justify spending more on laptop cooler /Ram /2nd HD/case skin ect.:rolleyes2:

I had asked about the price for colors, and someone said that Dell changes prices on pretty much any component at seemingly random intervals. When I asked, it was in reference to a guy who said he had paid $20 for a colored Inspiron, whereas now they're $50 extra.

It really depends on Dell. There's no set time, nothing. It completely depends on how they view the market at the moment and when rolling out coupons would be best for sales. The only thing you can do is lie in wait for that perfect coupon up to the very last minute you need that laptop and jump at the best deal.

There is also like 3-4 different skus for the same laptop.
I saw this while ordering mine.
The link I clicked on via here, had the colors for free.
Navigating to it from dell.com had the colors for $20 but i couldn't select anything but a 800mhz fsb processor (ie t7100, t7300, and t7500).
Then doing a google search for "inspiron 1520" and it was one of the google marketplace links or whatnot the colors were $20 still, but was able to select any processor... and was able to apply a coupon and this way ended up being $100 less than through the other two methods.

The guy at the Dell Kiosk told me they change their deals every Thursday, and close to the end of the month if they have not met their sales targets. So it sounds like the end of the month is the best time to buy.
