glossy looks better, at the expense of being highly reflective, this seems to bother some people more than others, I wouldnt trade my 1680 x 1050 glossy screen for a 1280 x 800 matte, however I would take a 1680 x 1050 matte in a heartbeat, though the gloss coating has only been a minor annoyance for me so far

So, if the resolution was the same for both, you'd go glass in a heart beat? (thinking of a 1405 matte...)

EDIT: Wow, never mind. Just realized the glossy was different res. on the 1405. 1440*900, woah.
My 15" I8000 is 1400*1050, and thats really nice, but matte :(

Yeah, unfortunately on some Dell systems (ie. E1405, E1505), it's not a simple black & white argument of glossy vs. matte. You also have to factor in the resolutions, since Dell does not offer higher resolutions in the matte options.

Of course, if you prefer both higher resolution and Truelife screens, it's a simple choice for you. Everybody else will have to sacrifice one for the other.

I, personally have no preference between glossy & matte (glossy looks nice, but matte doesn't hae an issue w/ glare), but I do prefer the higher resolution.

I guess, but count my vote for the glossy, b/c it does have a higher res...unfortunately that "IF" is not a reality (as of now)...i've been in the sunlight with the screen, and you have to get a good angle yes...but then again....what display in the sun have you ever seen look "good"...?

e1405/640m glossy owner here...i like it.

i would definitely go for the glossy one, you just need to adjust the angle of your head if you see reflection, increasing the screen brightness also helps, for me the beautifulness and ease of viewing (the matte screen caused to much eye fatigue for me) of glossy screen outweigh its weakness (reflectiveness). oh btw, some manufacturer screen use better anti-reflective coating than other.

glossy for me all the way. don't have the light coming from behind you if you don't want glare.
