Thought I'd upgrade the HDD and ram, any recommended vendors?
-
For HDs: Western Digital (all-around great drives from my experience), Hitachi (noisier and hotter, but good performance)
For RAM: brand doesn't really make a difference, unless there are differences in the warranty or CAS latency. Kingston modules are always good quality; look for their ValueRAM lineup as it is a bit cheaper. They also offer the gaming performance HyperX series, though I am not sure about compatibility with your model or your computing needs. -
Thanks! Where is a good place to get these things?

www.newegg.com
More than enough selection with some very good prices.
If you live in Canada as I do, Canada Computers is the place to go.

I've been checking newegg for notebook hard drives. Are notebook hard drives one size fits all? The models don't specify if it works for any particular laptop. How do I know if it will fit in a Inspiron e1505?
-
You should look for a 2.5" SATA hard disk. That size HD is "one size fits all" for laptops.
-
okay one more question, is there a specific type RAM that the Inspiron e1505 takes?

Manufacturer's specs:

It looks like you'll need a PC4200 (533MHz) DDR2 SDRAM. -
For the record, you can also use DDR2 667MHz or 800MHz, but they will underclock due to chipset limitations. They will be fully compatible, though. And if you ever get a new laptop, you will be able to use those faster sticks at their full speed in the new one.

Bog what about "Samsung" HDD
I have WD
But I think Samsung is good as well -
When I look under "system properties" is says t5200 core duo 1.6 ghz cpu
and 1 gig of ram at 798mhz. But that doesn't mean the bus speed is 798mhz does it? It's like 533?
Thanks for all the help. -
