thats almost maxxed out!
epp discount + 200 student discount coupon + 400 promotion discount + 3year warranty EPP 100 discount
=$700+ discount = good buy!![]()
-
-
what is the 400 promotion discount
-
-
I third this. What is the $400.00 promotion discount?
-
huh how did you get that pricing...i better go back and cehck
-
im getting almost 1450 with your exact specs =\
what school is your EPP prices under? -
weird i tried building the same thing and im not getting the same price when doing it through the government link
whats your total before any discounts? -
what exactly is the EPP discount? is that a coupon code or something?
-
epp is the educational program discount. instead of clicking "home and business" you click the "higher education/federal" option
if you go into that section they offer different pricing - instant discounts for EPP
mcchea i give up on your spec/price its not doable I have no clue how you got that offer because its amazing. -
I thought that the $200 coupon didn't stack with the "Instant Savings" packages. Hm.
-
it does
the $350 of inspiron coupon doesn't stack with instant savings - therefore epp savings +200 discount is better -
That's pretty excellent. Looks like I'm going to have to get that coupon, then...
-
"Dell EPP/FSS Customers: Save $397 off select Inspiron 1420 systems!"
When I do any of these, through government employee, my school, anything, I only get $70 off. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I'm desperately needing to buy a laptop right now (within this week) and I can't really spend more than $1200 (which is exactly where you all seem to be falling with this deal).
Thanks in advance! -
so you click
inspiron -> 1420
then you get 3 options
i think its "good" "better" "best"
the "best" option gives you a 400 dollar discount
your choosing "good" which only gives you a 70 discount
if you customize the "good" to a "best" config you only get the 70 discount.
so unless you want minimum specs, start with the "best" config
hope that helps -
Great thanks for this. Only thing though - configuring the 1420 the same exact way mcchea did yields me $1340 total, not $1131. Possible that he took one of the options off on his config or that the price has increased since then? hmmph...
-
How do you track down the codes to receive these offers? thanks =)
Dell EPP/FSS Customers: Save $397 off select Inspiron 1420 systems!
- $397.00
Students save $200 off Inspiron notebooks priced $999 and above!
- $200.00
Dell EPP/FSS Customers: Select PC-Care Plus Bundle and get 7% discount off your total system order.
- $96.32
Dell EPP/FSS customers receive 8% off systems priced $800 to $1600 with 3/4yr At-Home service.
- $102.37 -
the spec that mcchea built was through the federal government link. i actually tried building one through that link but i get a higher price as well. maybe it was a system glitch or something...because you can't get that price.
as for the discounts/promotions
the 200 coupon you get if you enter in a valid "xx.edu" email when you click "education"
the others are just added if you purchase through EPP
these cannot be applied to homeoffice purchases and there are no codes for it -
oooh, got it. I am actually purchasing through EPP, I just haven't checked out yet and was wondering if these discounts were coupon codes that had to be entered in at the end. Thanks for the clarification!
(can you use the codes for "save $350 off $1,399.00+ on this Dell Inspiron notebook" when purchasing through the EPP, or is that for Home only?) -
home only - the 350 off will replace the 400 discount...choose the one you want =P
-
Damn my school at Cal State University Northridge Dell site only allows me to get the Latitude D820. There's no options for any other computers =(
-
So no word on mcchea's deal? I just got off the phone with a very helpful Dell rep in the EPP section. The best price I was able to work was identical to an online config and that was $1194.27 after taxes and free shipping.
Here's my setup:
Inspiron 1420
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Jet Black
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 14.1 inch display (1440x900)
128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Integrated High Definition Audio
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
53Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell)
Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
3 Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor - Next Business Day
McAfee anti-virus 15-months
Oh and I got him to throw in a "plant a tree" for me since that doesn't seem to be an option on the EPP site. heh.
But, as you can see, this does not have the Complete Care/LoJack package nor the 160GB HDD nor the 9 cell additional battery. Maybe I could get the color lid worked in somehow, but with those additions I can't find any way of getting near mcchea's total of $1,131.07 after taxes. If he were around I would love to hear how he did it because this sounds fantastic. -
Rowen - ask the rep about DPA (Dell Preferred Account), as long as you don't have ****ty credit sign up for that and you get 4% off of all orders...and you don't need to pay for it for like a month after you get it
I got:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Jet Black
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA TL LCD for Inspiron 1420
128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Integrated High Definition Audio
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
6-Cell AND 9-Cell
Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
1 Year Warranty
for $1000 final price... -
I suppose I could inquire about the DPA and see if I can get that extra 4% off. Thanks.
Your config (I'm assuming your "final price" includes tax) comes out to $200 cheaper than mine. Is this $200 off worth it? Yours has just 1GB RAM - this is how I had been configuring all of mine as I figured I'd spend the $65 (at a minimum) to get 2x1GB SO-DIMM sticks off of Newegg - but of course you'd have to deal with pulling out the keyboard to install the new RAM. And you can't just upgrade 1 stick since I'm assuming 2x512MB sticks when it says Dual Channel as yours does above.
Next, 1yr vs 3yr at home warranty. Should I assume yours is a 1yr mail in? So how much is the better warranty worth? The additional 9 cell would be nice though. $1000 would have been a great price, but I'm thinking that maybe the 3yr warranty and preinstalled 2GB RAM might be worth the difference.
Oh...and I didn't notice til just now, you opted for the WXGA screen and not the WXGA+. I definitely need that upgrade.
Where is mcchea when you need him?? -
if you read at the beginning o the post he just said he used the federal government employee site. but it still doesn't work out.
anyways, so is it better to order on the phone than to order online?
and yea 1year vs 3 year warranty BIG deal in my opinion for dell laptops
doubleblack also doesn't have the webcam on his spec
also make theres an option for the 3gb "online storage" (what crap is that) for $9, make sure you uncheck that, unless you want...3gb of "online storage" -
Right, I took off the online storage to get my final price. Which was identical to the quote I got over the phone. So much for everyone claiming that calling in may lead to better deals or extra incentives. Not my experience thus far with Dell...
And to the warranty question - I originally just intended to go with the 1yr or possibly adding the In-Home option to the basic 1yr. By purchasing it with a Mastercard I would be entitled to double the warranty. 2yr in-home is pretty decent. But this was all before finding out about these EPP deals, which seem to yield better offers. I would go back to the standard 1yr in-home if someone could provide me with proof of an outstanding deal, dollar-for-dollar over this one. -
i've had too many problems with my current dell laptop to take anything less than 3years and with the EPP deal its not bad at all. though i read somewhere that if you get accidental coverage - and then say at the end of your third year when dell changes to a new model of inspirons and there aren't anymore 1420/1520 refurbished laptops, you simply "drop" your computer and call in for a new laptop=free upgrade
-
Here is the best build I could get:
Inspiron 1420
- Intel® Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
- Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
- Jet Black
- 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz

- 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS
- 160GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
- CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
- High Definition Audio 2.0
- Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card

- I chose Security with Value, Plus,or Premium Warranty Bundle
- 85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)

Dell EPP/FSS Customers: 7% off systems with PC-Care Plus Bundle! - $123.69

Subtotal: $1,246.11
Shipping and Handling: $19.99
Shipping Discount: -$19.99
Tax Total: $74.76
Total: $1,320.87
This pales in comparison with mcchea who got one for ~$1100. I have a faster harddrive but he got two batteries and he's going to save $200. He got an AMAZING deal for his specs. -
encore i have a question about your price/spec
how did you get the "12% off systems priced $1600 and up with 3/4 yr At-Home service. - $197.20"
your initial price is 2164-400-200 = 1564*7%off= 1454
12% off systems priced $1600, your spec is $1450...i made one with a 2164 initial price but im not getting that 12% discount, im getting the 8% one -
I applied my student coupon at the end so I'm guessing it calculated that last...
btw.. this is through my university so Im guessing they have there own deal with dell. I have a click through a link in my unis website.
Good luck! -
I'm actually thinking of calling tomorrow and inquiring about a price upgrade to the 7200RPM drive, because the more I think about it it's worth the extra $30 or so dollars to just get it from Dell instead of NewEgg. -
mcchea's post just mysteriously disappeared.....hmm, the Men in Black have visited us.
-
hmm interesting maybe he did some illegal hacking
-
I sent him an IM on AIM and he responded by saying he was out of town on his cellphone but would get back to me Wednesday night regarding his super-duper Inspiron 1420 deal. I was just thinking though - I'm not one for fraud and therefore even if his deal was possible through the government link, I'm not an employee. Perhaps he is, but I for one am not sure I'd want to take the chance.
Would love to hear feedback from other members though who may have some good ideas on securing a better deal than the one I listed a page back. I'm not so interested in the 160GB drive (although it's a nice plus), but the extra 9 cell battery and complete care coverage would be incentive enough to "seal the deal", so to speak.
Actually, the paragraphy above just reminded me of that old Strong Bad email. The one about writing an English paper, some loose change, and stuffing batteries in your mouth.... -
How are you guys getting the student coupon? I'm a student with a university e-mail address and I'm not getting one.
Edit: Never mind I got it!
good price college students! 1420
