i just received my 1330 and the screen is HORRIBLE its of course a chi mei led and the graininess is soo obvious. anyway i called xps and tried to request the toshiba one and they said they can't specifically request a part number for the screen, so i had to take a gamble. anyway is there a way to find out which screen im getting before they come and take apart my notebook, because if its another chi mei one, that'd be pointless and id rather just return it or tell them to forget about it so i dont have to waste my time and theirs. thanks

oh also i heard someone from another forum that they got a samsung led that was perfect, except there was a buzzing that came from THAT screen? i havent heard anything about this? does anyone know anything about this?

Really that bad huh? Does it remind you of a tablet screen? (if you have seen them)

no im not familiar with those, but yeah it looks like graph paper, its really noticeable not subtle at all. oh and also there's a white dot towards the left of it and im not sure if its a "dead pixel" but the spot looks bigger than a pixel and thats also really annoying.

i talked to 2 xps reps already and they said there was no way they could specify a specific part number for the screen, is this what everyone else is hearing too?

I say just tell 'em if they don't give you a good monitor, you're gonna keep returning them until you get a good one.

well i dont really have time for that but if the one that their sending isn't a toshiba im just gonna return it, because thats not the only thing. the some parts of the laptop seem really cheap and flimsy and for their top of the line laptop thats ridiculous. i can get past all that tho but i can't ignore a bad screen, so i guess we'll see how it goes..

    Yeah I suppose.

That's the one problem with laptops, you never really know what monitor you're getting.

I agree with unknowntt. Just keep sending the laptop back until you get a screen that you like.

No way to tell what you're gonna get from that; it's a standad replacement part number for either brand screen. My tech also told me the same thing: she was going to try to put in a request for a Toshiba, but wasn't sure she could, as Dell would likely send out whatever was in stock. I asked her VERY nicely to try, though; don't know if it helped, but I did get a Toshiba replacement for my CMO.

Dell uses CMO and Toshiba for the LED screens and samsung for the regular screens.

You are right. I don't care who really makes the screen as long as its bright, minimal backlight bleed, has good color saturation, and little to no grain, I be happy.

i dont know much about computers, but i honestly don't get how a "top of the line" laptop can't even get the screen right!..i mean honestly my brother's 399 compaq laptop has a better screen than this, it's pathetic!

Most people don't care, but I would say less then 5% of us do care. This is how Dell can get away with it and it does lower costs.
