dial up is so old school. you should really upgrade to at least DSL...

Dial-up slowness is likely due to your modem being a V.92. Your ISP may not support it. Call your ISP and see if they can help you put in some "Extra Initialization Commands" for Vista to slow the modem down to V.90 only speeds. Likely they can set it to whatever speed your other PC gets. I am pretty proficient with XP and modem settings (I worked for an ISP for years), but havn't a clue where to put them in Vista.

I didn't think anybody used dial up anymore.... BTW - Vista requires a high speed connection in the requirments. Because of this, they didn't change any of the dial up stacks for tcp/ip like they did on the ethernet and wireless sides. I concur about contacting your ISP though. Most likely need some init strings. might want to check out modemhelp.net too.

I am forced to use dial up.. I'm in a rural area.. theres nothing here but trees, potato fields and cows.. lol..
28.8 kbps.. that's typical.. it's dial up, it's going to be slow. period. end of story. 56kbps is just the 'theoretical' max speed of the modem. not like you're ever gonna get that kind of speed unless you live next door to you're ISP lol..
If you're ISP supports 1.92 instead of the typical 1.90 then you'll get double the speeds. -
dang... 60 bucks for DSL?? i only pay 13 bucks a month. thats ridiculous!!
