hi. i've recently purchased a dell xps m1530 and i was wondering about the scratching/crackling noise in the background. i'm assuming it's the hard drive but i never noticed it on my inspiron or anyhting. is this common with the xps models? and is there anything i can do about it? thanks.

I own a XPS 1530 , I hear the HDD faintly spinning sometimes whent some processing happens , none of this scratching - crackling thing and probably there is nothing you can do about it short of trying different HDD's to see which spins quiet

it sounds like it doesn't bother him, more that he's just curious if it's normal. If it's a constant sound try adjusting your brightness and see if it goes away at full.

okay...now that i think about it. it is kind of annoying, but i guess its okay. according to the thread posted by gunned i guess it happens to a lot of people. if i return it for a new one, would it most likely do the same thing? is this something a driver update could fix? if so, i could just wait it out.
