for those of you with 7200 rpm hard drives on your dell laptop, is your hard drive seek noise pretty loud? mine is a hitachi travelstar 7200rpm 100gb drive. although it isnt too bad, the noise can get very annoying at times. I have another laptop with 5400 rpm and it is MUCH quieter. in the future i might consider going for much quieter drives, regardless of rotation speed.

I have the 7200 rpm 60gb in my E1505, I'd say it's about as loud as the fan on its slowest speed. Audible hum, but not annoying IMO.

thats just the rotation, he means the ticking sound when the HD is active. My 5400rpm in my 1505 is quiet (and pretty fast, it kills any of my previouse lapop HDs), its a Fujitsu MHV2060BH.

I have the travelstar too. It is not too loud, unless I am installing a game. But sometimes when i use the touch pad, I can hear it.

Oh, in that case I would still say it's pretty quiet, no louder than any other computer I've used.

I have a SATA Hitachi 100GB 7200RPM. It is a bit 'clickity', but I don't mind. I'll take noise for extra perfomance any day.

I believe you can also set the hard drive noise options with NHC (Notebook Hardware Control).
