Grr. I love this laptop, but I need it to calm down and start acting right.

This is the replacement E1505 for my first one which had a dead VGA out port and a bum DVD.

This one just started doing this thing where the main LCD does a hard fast flicker roughly every 1-25 minutes or so. Last about 1 second, but it's definitely happening.

I'm running an external LCD monitor at 1280x1024. Extended desktop.

I'm just using my normal apps, Firefox, Flash, Pshop, Illustrator.

I'm running the current Omega drivers.

Anyone else having an issue like this?

External monitor is rock solid. No flicker.

Only happens when driving the external 17" LCD @ 1280x1024.

When only driving the local LCD, no flash.

    Grr.

Anyone else seeing anything like this?

    Omega drivers a possible cause?

I'm under the impression that the Omega drivers are basically, just the ATi drivers repackaged without some of the ATi fluffery? True?

Does it happen at regular intervals ? If so then check your power management settings, see if any of those settings like monitor standby timeout has any relation. Just a feelingÂ…

There are some things that are caused by using other gpu drivers besides dell, so I would try the ATI drivers from dell just to test it out and be sure. This way you can eliminate the driver.

Are you changing the resolution while you use your external monitor? I know you stated that the monitor runs at 1280, but I wasn't sure if you were actually changing the resolution or not.

I'm not timing it, but, it seems fairly constant in maybe 20 minute intervals, give or take. I'm using the computer constantly, so, the power scheme should not be getting in the way, but I'll root around in there a little bit.

I'm not changing the resolution. I just select Monitor 2 and extend desktop to it.

Argh, I guess I'll uninstall Omega and install the ATi drivers.

The weird thing is the external LCD is not flickering only the local one. It only lasts about 1 second or so.

If both LCD's were flickering it would be the graphics card. It's most likely the LCD on the laptop. If new drivers don't fix it, have dell replace the LCD panel.

Well, I uninstalled the Omega drivers, and installed the drivers off the Dell website.

I did a driver only install, no Catalyst.

The flicker is greatly reduced. I rarely see it now, but have seen it. Games seem to play better. Flash animations are smoother?

    Kinda weird.

I have not seen it with Omega or Dell drivers when only using the local LCD with no external monitor.
