i was thinking about upgrading my hardrive from a 40gb to a 7200RPM 60gb. What kind of speed performance will I see from the faster drive?

You should see a good 15-20% increase in performance, particularly faster boot up times, and programs will open up faster.

very cool. unfortunately, when i contacted dell they told me the 7200 rpm drive was only available when odering the laptop. looks like i can only get a normal 60gb drive. poop.

Why get it from Dell? There are tons of sites that sell it for much cheaper.

well my laptop is still within the 21 return policy, so they told me i can upgrade my stuff for the upgrade price. meaning a 60gb 7200rpm drive would be about $130

I see. I wonder if you told them your sending it back so you can reorder one with a 7200 drive they will suddenly come up with one. May be worth a try.

$130 is a good price. the lowest price on the net is 180.
